As driven young professionals, it can be difficult to make time for socializing and staying active during the workweek. Choosing between grabbing drinks with co-workers, going on a date, or hitting the gym shouldn’t have to be a dilemma we face.

Derek Hodes, along with his partner JP Huseby, have created an event for individuals to run, meet, and connect. Inspired by his work on the Mercedes Benz Corporate Run and his own personal experience, Hodes thought, what if we could bring young and driven like minded individuals together to connect with one another in a healthy and fun way. Through this idea, Run2Date was created.

Run2Date is not just for those looking to find the “one”, but is really about bringing people who enjoy working hard and having fun together for a night of fitness, food, drinks, and games. The 5k is for runners, joggers, and walkers (must be 21 years and older to register) with an emphasis put on connection and not on your finishing time (event is untimed).

Registration is similar to any other 5k. However instead of a bib with a race number, participants receive a bib personalized with their name. Run2Date aims to form an inclusive community, and therefore racers are able to customize their bib with their relationship status and sexual preference.

Those who are single and ready to mingle select green, while those who might be in more complicated situations can select yellow. Participants looking to be a wingman for friends or plan a fun date night can select red, telling others that they are “hooked up.” Racers can further customize their bib with gender preference, by indicating they are interested in men, women, or both genders.

Registration for the event is $65, which includes access to the 5k race and post-race party. Unlike other races where post-event festivities are open to all, this event is closed to racers only. After crossing the finish line, participants are given a fresh t-shirt to change into and new stickers to communicate the information that was displayed on their race bibs. Refresh stations, provided by Glamsquad, are available for racers to freshen up. The race fee includes drinks and food from amazing sponsors like Concrete Beach, Hendricks Gin, Deliver Lean, and many more.

Aside from the race bib that was designed to help break the ice between strangers, the night will include lawn games, mural painting, and other activities for racers to meet the ‘one’ or a new friend. If you are tired of swiping right and left, looking for a new running buddy, or just want to spice up your relationship with a fun date night, Run2Date is an event you won’t want to miss!

Registration information as well as a full list of event sponsors can be found here: . With two South Florida events, Fort Lauderdale (11/8) and Wynwood/Miami (11/15), racers can choose the location that is best for them. Both races will begin at 7pm on their respective dates with the private post-event to end at midnight.
