Where to Workout in Miami All Year Long

If you are looking to sweat off that mojito, here are a few places we recommend checking out that will give you a little taste of Miami.

For fitness enthusiasts, Miami has it all. The year-round beautiful weather has helped Miami and the Beaches blossom into one of the premier fitness destinations in the country and certainly on the East Coast. So if you are traveling to Miami and looking to sweat off that mojito, here are a few places we recommend checking out that will give you a little taste of Miami.January – MarchThe cool weathered early Winter months of Miami make it ideal to stop by Key Biscayne. The Rickenbacker Causeway is one of the most popular places in Miami to bike and run, providing one of the best views of Downtown and Brickell in the city. Crandon Park is a great place to make a pit stop for a break or to double down on your "sweat sesh" with a little bodyweight boot camp.

April – JuneMargaret Pace Park is neatly located in the friendly neighborhood of Edgewater that is booming with fitness activity. The Venetian Causeway is right there in case you feel like biking or running over to Miami Beach. Along the way, get great views of Biscayne Bay and the city that you’ll never forget.

July – SeptemberSouth Pointe Park is one of the coolest spots in Miami. First, it’s tucked away in a surprisingly quiet little neighborhood on Miami Beach which locals refer to as “South of Fifth.” The Park has it all: open green spaces where you are sure to find a group fitness class you can drop-in, and an excellent walking/running/biking path you can follow all the way alongside Miami Beach for a number of blocks North. If that’s not enough, sit back and watch the cruise ships sail pass Fisher Island from the Port of Miami.

October – DecemberMiami wouldn’t be the incredible city it is without all of the art, culture and food. Nowhere in the city can you find more of that than in Wynwood. The neighborhood has a “can’t-miss” vibe to it, so we highly recommend biking through this gem during your visit to Miami. See all of the giant artistic murals as you sweat off that artisanal spirit you just gulped down before popping in one of the many healthy eateries the neighborhood boasts. For some great sports and fitness events and offers, take advantage of Miami Sports & Wellness Month by the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau.

How Losing His Voice For Three Years Changed Paul Silitsky's Life

Nine years ago, Founder Paul Silitsky was leading a successful technology firm when he lost his voice – literally, lost his voice to spasmodic dysphonia.

Eat, sleep, work - that is the typical day for most of the population. Many of us will even throw ‘workout’ into the mix, yet still, something is missing. Meditation.Innergy Meditation is the first studio of it’s kind, opening their doors in the heart of South Beach. Their intention, make meditation mainstream. Many hear the word ‘meditation’ and think - sitting in an uncomfortable pretzel pose on a pillow on the floor, surrounded by incense, with your hand making o’s and chanting ‘ommmmmm’ for a ridiculous amount of time. Maybe even monks in long cloaks come to mind.Innergy Meditation is here to advocate for the practice of mediation, and how even just three minutes of meditating can impact your day-to-day well-being, and ultimately, your life.Nine years ago, Innergy Meditation Founder Paul Silitsky was leading a successful technology firm when he lost his voice – literally, lost his voice to spasmodic dysphonia.“For three years essentially, I lost my voice,” recalls Silitsky. “It gave me the ability to be more understanding. This happened and it led me to really realize that we are all very unique, but we’re all the same. We all have three things in common - we want to be listened to, we want to be loved, and we want to feel connected.”The impact meditation had on Paul's life and well-being is what lead to the creation of Innergy Meditation. Paul and his teams intention is to get meditation the reputation it deserves, by making it accessible to everyone and have it find a place in your daily routine, even for just a minutes."I will not start a day without meditating, because I’m important, and I have to take care of me. So if 3-minutes of meditation is all I do, so be it,” says Silitsky.Over the next few years, Innergy Meditation plans to open 108 studios in urban areas, reaching out to the community, schools and companies. Classes are offered for individuals in all places of their meditation journey, and are instructed by some of the most influential and passionate humans in the community.Tap into your true essence and connect with who you are during a 30-minute “Heart30” class, or opt for the “Quickie20” on those days when time is limited, but that inner peace needs some love. For more information, visit http://www.innergymeditation.com/.

Step Inside Wynwood's Newest Sweaty Endeavor, Wynwell

Wynwell is a lifestyle brand with a mission to improve the overall well-being of our community in five domains: career, social, physical, community and financial.

Creating an experience beyond another day at the gym is the name of the game for the guys at Wynwood’s newest sweaty endeavor-- Wynwell. LA bred Owner, Asher Burris, saw a gap and has set out to fill it. Not just in the Wynwood neighborhood or even Miami, but in the ever-evolving fitness industry as a whole.“I always try to say, what’s the biggest problem and how can we create a solution,” says Burris. This translates into a few things— creating a work-out environment built around connection to yourself, your community and void any suffering in the state of wellbeing, empowering our school systems and work places, and creating a future blueprint on how spaces need to become smart to name a few.Wynwell is a lifestyle brand with a mission to improve the overall well-being of our community in five domains: career, social, physical, community and financial.“A lot of people achieve, a lot of people win, but they don’t do it with meaning and fulfillment—I’m trying to improve your lifestyle,” says Burris. Serious shit, right? “Go to when you’re 80 years old, how do you want to move?”Through your workout you’ll hear queues on your body control, posture, and alignment making you aware of your body’s structure in a way that may be new to you and most likely walk away not just having had a kick-ass work-out, but actually learning something. When doing the research as to where Burris would set up shop, the decision was easy. “Wynwood is easily the heartbeat, the pulse, of the whole city of Miami. The heartbeat, innovation, creativity, community, it adds to a lot of really core pieces of your lifestyle-- the art, music, food. So for us it was a no brainer,” adds Burris.

As our world continues to become environmentally conscious, so should the places we go to manifest a healthier, more fit, even sexier version of ourselves. The moment you step in the warehouse, it’s obvious much thought and detail went into creating the space. Your senses are greeted by custom aromatherapy and walls with proverbs to motivate you through your work out.The room is open for endless workout possibilities and not a single electricity-guzzling machine is in sight. Equipment like spin bikes and rowers hide behind walls for optimal space. Repurposed shipping containers fill the corners serving as a place to kick back and catch your breath post-sweat with flooring made of recycled tires and live greenery adding just the right amount of color. What you don’t see is the air, water, light, and other concepts that meet the expectations of The WELL Building Standard™ and The Wellness Habitat Company. The dedication to creating a smart, healthy, livable and eventually workable space is real. “We’re out to really shake things up!” Burris states. The Move x Well Class schedule rotates daily through cardio, weights, body weight Pilates, and on Saturday’s ‘the unknown’ six days a week starting as early as 6:00 am. Code of Life: Where Mind, Body and Spirit Unite

Located on the second floor of a quaint little shopping section of Key Biscayne, Code of Life is ideally situated for those looking to work on their mind, body and spirit.

As I turn onto the Rickenbacker Causeway for my first class at Code of Life, a sign greets me and I instantly feel excited: 'Welcome to Key Biscayne - Island Paradise." With sparkling sun-kissed turquoise water as far as the eye can see, beautiful green trees and tons of fitness enthusiasts jogging, cycling and walking dogs, I feel as if I've entered some futuristic society that epitomises healthy living. I could certainly get used to mornings like this!

Located on the second floor of a quaint little shopping section of Key Biscayne, Code of Life is ideally situated for those looking to work on their mind, body and spirit. And with its close proximity to Biscayne Bay, the Atlantic Ocean and acres of untouched nature preserves, it's a beautiful setting for a workout away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Classes are intimate and the instructors are incredibly warm and relaxed, adding to the island vibe!

Notable Classes

Barre: I absolutely LOVE Code of Life's Barre studio because there are mirrors EVERYWHERE! Use them to perfect your form or to sneak glances at your classmates or instructor! It's a great motivational tool when your shaking legs feel like they'll measure 9.0 on the Richter Scale! The classes are fast-paced, endorphin boosting and FUN!! The beginning of my class with Francine felt like an 80s jazzercize video and I couldn't stop smiling! I was drippppppping with sweat and if my ass could cry it would!!

Pilates Reformer: For those who have spent time in a pilates studio before you'll know there are some reformers which lay flat on the floor (ie no "table legs.") I've found that these machines conjure up zen-like feelings of tranquility (maybe it's being grounded... literally) so I was really glad to see them at Code of Life. They immediately set the tone for a class that allowed me to mentally unwind and decompress while getting a great workout and focusing on my postural alignment, flexibility and core strength.

Code of Life also has THE BEST (and I mean BEST) athleisure clothing shop. So if the tranquil island vibe and amazing classes haven't reeled you in ... GO FOR THE SHOP!!!

How to Make Miami as Bikeable as Copenhagen

Essentially, Copenhagen used human-centered design – with bicyclists’ needs given as much weight as pedestrians, transit users, and drivers – for their city.

Miami is a bicyclist’s nightmare. Bike lanes are few and far between and drivers treat cyclists like they’re an affront. Getting around by bike during rush hour is a courageous act.Copenhagen, meanwhile, is a bicyclist’s dream. Bicyclists have their own lanes separated from vehicle traffic and the traffic lights are timed to keep them moving at peak travel times, rather than riding their brakes or doing that really annoying thing where you wobble and peddle slowly to try and avoid having to come to a complete stop.Urban designer Mikael Colville-Andersen is on a mission to make more cities like Copenhagen.Although he was born and raised in Calgary, Canada (“If you think Miami’s bad [for bicyclists], Calgary sucks,” he says), he’s called Copenhagen home for a long time now, zipping to and from work on his bicycle. And he travels the world with other members of his company, Copenhagenize Design Co., teaching cities like Strasbourg, France, and Detroit how to get there themselves.Bernard Zyscovich, the man behind the Rickenbacker overhaul dubbed “Plan Z,” brought him to Miami last week in hopes of inspiring us to do some of that here.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qHWKTQRPfQBut what does it mean to Copenhagenize a city? And what does that look like for a car-centric city? It’s possible, Colville-Anderson says – Copenhagen was as car-choked as Miami a couple decades ago.“I just think it means that you are taking the bicycle seriously as transport. It’s not just a way to get to the beach, it’s an integral part of the transportation system in a city… Copenhagenizing a city is just merely implementing best practice bicycle infrastructure, making it safe and accessible and attractive to ride a bike,” Colville-Andersen said.“There’s a zeitgeist at the moment. This is not some wacky little idea. There are cities all over the world doing this. Paris, Strasbourg, Detroit, and Long Beach, California. They are ready for a game-changer, they are ready to shift the paradigm. When you have Detroit and Long Beach, you know America is on the verge of an urban transport revolution.”Here’s him elaborating on it at TedxZurich:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pX8zZdLw7csCan Miami get there? We talked to Colville-Anderson just after he arrived at his hotel on Miami Beach, straight from the airport. He had pretty much only seen the expressway, the Macarthur Causeway, and South Beach when we asked for his first impression.“I threw up in my mouth almost the entire way here because of the typical American traffic engineering… but as soon as you hit South Beach, there’s girls in bikinis riding bikes… It’s chaotic traffic but there are regular people on bicycles using bikes to get around,” he said.So Miami Beach is doing alright (although South Beach residents who get around on a bike might beg to differ). The rest of the county, not so much. That’s because Miami-Dade is not designed with bicycles in mind, leaving much to desire for those on two wheels. That brings us to Colville-Anderson first suggestion for Copenhagenizing Miami: desire lines.Desire linesPlanners in Copenhagen paid attention to the shortcuts bicyclists were taking through parks and intersections, and then built infrastructure to make them official paths.Colville-Anderson says “desire lines” – the routes that bikers want, versus the routes in place — are what Miami planners should be paying attention to.You’ll often find cyclists bending the rules or creating their own paths in order to get around efficiently. Those routes that Miami bikers are unofficially using are the desire lines which Colville-Anderson says are the solution. Infrastructure created with bicyclists in mind can “seduce” people into choosing the bike over the car to get around, he says.

Plan Z Miami

The “Green Wave”Most cities have an urban core that a majority of working residents have to drive toward in the morning for work, and leave from in the evening when they head home. Lots of cities alter their traffic light patterns or even swap lanes over to keep traffic moving in the in-demand direction. But there’s nothing like that for cyclists, and anyone who has tried to share the road with cars during a traffic jam can agree that it’s pretty much the worst experience ever. Not so in Copenhagen, where the separate lane for bicyclists is set up to give them a pretty much constant green light for several miles headed toward the urban core or away from it, depending on the time of day. Some cities have started doing this during periods of bad weather as well, to minimize the time bike commuters have to spend in the rain. The first step? Plan Z.Essentially, Copenhagen used human-centered design – with bicyclists’ needs given as much weight as pedestrians, transit users, and drivers – for their city.So too does Plan Z, Zyscovich’s fantastical reimagination of the Rickenbacker Causeway, which would turn the popular but dangerous roadway into a linear park with a separate, parallel roadway for bicyclists and pedestrians as they enter the causeway.*This article was originally published on The New Tropic by Ariel Zirulnick and can be found here.

Supercharge Your Workouts at The Fit Shop NMB & FTL

The Fit Shop offers four different types of high intensity fitness classes: Supercharge, Tune-Up, Turbo, and Burnout each which incorporate kickboxing, performance training, and boot camp aspects.

I recently had the opportunity to work out both popular South Florida Fit Shop locations; the new Fit Shop Ft. Lauderdale location in Flagler Village, and the North Miami Beach location, just off the hustle and a bustle of Biscayne Blvd on Dixie Highway. The Fit Shop offers four different types of high intensity fitness classes: Supercharge, Tune-Up, Turbo, and Burnout each which incorporate kickboxing, performance training, and boot camp aspects. The philosophy that I identified most with is Fit Shop’s focus on mental alignment and balance. Positive self-talk is all the rage here and is evident at the beginning of class with positive intention setting.I am all about the holistic approach to fitness. As a Registered Dietitian, I encourage positive self-talk and I emphasize balance in the maintenance of healthy eating patterns with fitness regimens.I had the pleasure of taking the Fit Shop FTL's “Tune-Up” class at 9:00am Tuesday morning (which was that and much more!), and the Thursday NBM “Supercharge” 6:15pm class.

*Read: 6 Exercises That Will Tune-Up Your Legs*

The “Tune-Up” class was a great way to get my Tuesday morning started – also love the fresh smell of lavender which filled the air (nice touch guys). Coach Adriane Abraham killed us with quick, fun and intense rounds, characterized with the use of kettlebells, rowers, stationary bikes and TRX bands. Geared as a boot camp style class, the “Tune-Up” class is just the right fit for overall fitness performance and toning!Thursday’s “Supercharge” class was a whole other story. A combo between the “Tune-Up” and “Burnout,” incorporating kickboxing, the “Supercharge” class is power and endurance focused! I have to admit, this was my very first kickboxing experience. It had always been on my list of things to try and I am so glad I tried it at Fit Shop first… it was AWESOME! Seriously so much fun… I want MORE!Speaking with Coach Adriane after class, you can feel her passion exuding as she speaks about what has brought her to this point in her career. She loves what she has created and is striving to bring fitness, motivation and balance to everyone who steps foot on the tarp of both Fit Shop locations. The Fit Shop North Miami Beach2066 NE 155th StreetNorth Miami Beach, FL 33162(786) 916-6930The Fit Shop Fort Lauderdale729 NE 2nd AveFort Lauderdale, FL 33304(954) 769-1885

While the Tropical Vinyasa studio just opened in September, founder Amy Dannheim and teacher Paul Toliuszis have been favorites amongst Miami yogis for some time. It's no wonder that this studio is getting so much buzz.I had the opportunity to join Jake Ferree (who recently joined the crew from Los Angeles) for their signature one-hour Pineapple Express class one Friday afternoon at 12pm (other top classes include ‘Tropical Flow’ and the weekly ‘Yoga Church’).

*Read: Miami's Best Yoga Studios - Where to Practice in 2017*

Despite the class being held during the middle of the day, the room was completely packed with focused students, which speaks volumes about both teacher and studio. Jake's class was a perfect blend of challenging asana, a little bit of sweat, upbeat music and teacher-generated zeal.

The airy atmosphere at Tropical Vinyasa adds to the experience. A stroll down an artsy Sunset Harbor alley (with a Juice Lab next door!) led me to this beautiful studio, which lends itself to uplifting flow and beats. The space itself is light and minimalist with a hint of sunny cheerfulness that happens to match the teacher's energy to a T.Practice at Tropical Vinyasa is a must for locals and visitors alike. They also offer workshops and a 200 hr. yoga teacher training for the yogi looking to deepen their practice. Find out more and view their schedule at: http://www.tropicalvinyasa.com/.

6 Surprising Health and Beauty Uses For Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is my go-to for all things health, wellness and beauty for the past few years.

“I got 99 problems, but coconut oil ain’t one." I have been seeing this quote everywhere lately, and it is so true! Coconut oil is my go-to for all things health, wellness and beauty for the past few years. I use it as a conditioner, body lotion and consume at least a tablespoon a day through cooking or coffee. Yup, coffee! The health benefits of our tropical friend are almost endless. Coconuts can be burned and ground to make activated charcoal, pressed for oil or added to your oatmeal for a lightly-sweet crunch. The coconut can be your best friend in beauty, and I am here today to share with you how we use it in the TWF household! Not all coconut oil is created equal. While shopping you are best to buy organic, unrefined or naturally refined coconut oil. I love this one and this one. I also like to buy in bulk from costco. Do your homework, and you will reap the benefits ten fold.https://www.youtube.com/embed/vhOCRNijk2sThe health benefits of coconut oil are:

1). Coconut oil is made up of MCFA’s or medium-chain-fatty acids. These acids only have to go through a 3-step process to be used as fuel and can readily be used as an energy source. Other fats have to go through a 26-step process to be used as fuel which means coconut oil can be used to power the body almost 9 times faster!

2). Coconut oil is a proven natural treatment for Alzheimer’s Disease.

3). It can help give your immune system a boost! Coconut oil is antibacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal and can help regulate the bad bacteria found in the powerhouse of your body (your gut).

4). Can help improve basic skin issues like: eczema, psoriasis, dandruff and burns.

5). It can aid in the weightless process due to it’s ability to decrease appetite and burn fat! Especially in the belly.

6). I could go on and on! The benefits of coconut oil are seemingly endless, and if these aren’t enough of a reason to start to incorporate coconut oil into your diet and lifestyle then just try to google and read the countless articles and medical journals out there!

As always, a special thank you to my friend Marianna of Catarcione productions for this beautiful video!

Are Your Skin Care and Beauty Products Causing Chemophobia?

It's no longer just about the brands you choose, but now it's also about the list of ingredients that make up those products.

The line between advertising and journalism has become blurred. Everyone is trying to sell something - products or ideas. And Skin Care and Beauty Products seem to be a hotly debated topic whereby it's no longer just about the brands you choose, but now it's also about the list of ingredients that make up those products.Personally, I'm tired of others constantly trying to convince me. So I'm going to throw an idea out there. I'll try to argue both sides equally, but I won't tell you which side of the fence I'm on. I won't try to convince you one way or the other. You decide.---Think of your morning routine: you wash your face, shampoo and condition your hair, lather up your body with soap. Men shave, women put make up on (or vice versa - whatever floats your boat!) We moisturise, use sunblock, anti frizz hair products and paint our nails.

*Read: 7 Skin Care Tips Before, During and After Your Workout*

In relation to these products, we hear tons of descriptive terms: au Natural, Organic, Fragrance Free, Paroben Free, Eco-friendly, Plant Based, Not Tested on Animals, etc.Opinion A - Soap is a Soap (is a soap!)Skin Care and Beauty Products have been around forever and they're FINE just the way they are. Marketing companies have created 'chemophobia' and are trying to demonize chemicals by lumping them all into one category: BAD! I'm happy to have something in my products that stops fungus, bacteria and other microbes from growing, especially in the moist, warm environment of a bathroom. Plus, natural products or ingredients aren’t necessarily organic, as they can be grown using pesticides and fertilisers. And though organic products are always natural, just because they're natural it doesn’t mean they're sustainable or ethically sourced.Opinion B - It could have existed in Wilma Flintstone's bathroomI know what an avocado is but what the F is Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate? I eat healthy, exercise and don't smoke. I am not about to let my skin, the biggest organ in my body, absorb mystery chemicals and toxins. My skin is a sponge, not a barrier, so what I put ON it goes IN it. I also care about the environment, my carbon foot print, free radicals, toxins, the biodegradable-ness of packaging and future generations.---Are there terrible chemicals in my products? Probably. Maybe. I don’t know.Maybe I just want to live dangerously. Maybe I'm too lazy to change my current habits. Or maybe spending my money on 'fancy' items isn't something I want to do (wait, are they more expensive?!)Then again, maybe I'll pioneer a movement for the eradication of nasty chemicals in skin care and beauty products, adding 10 years to your life (and your face). My main point is this: First decide whether or not you care. If you don't, cool, have a nice life. If you do, do your own research and consider the sources of the information you're about to adhere to. Anything can be presented in a way that makes it scary or convincing.

Punch and Kick Yourself Fit at CKO Kickboxing Brickell

The first of 77 locations nationwide in Miami, CKO Kickboxing Brickell delivers an action packed workout that is sure to leave you sweaty.

I got to visit one of Brickell's newest sweat zones- CKO Kickboxing Miami. The first of 77 locations nationwide in Miami, CKO Kickboxing Brickell delivers an action packed workout that is sure to leave you sweaty. Their website explains that participants use real gloves and heavy bags with basic punches to keep the focus on fitness and classes open for all levels.I've done kickboxing a couple of times before at different places, but no one took the time to show me anything before class. It was more of a "here are your gloves- have a great class" kind of experience. When I got to CKO Kickboxing Brickell, they sized me for gloves and one of the instructors (Rodney) took about 15 minutes to go over the different punches, kicks and terms that I would hear in class. Awesome, right? When it was time for class to start the instructor made sure to introduce himself (my instructor was Sebastian) and we all warmed up with a few minutes of jumping rope. Next we eased into our workout with some light punching. We started doing a combination of punches and body weight moves. Then the fun started. We did a combination of punches for a few intervals, and separately, punches and kicks. Sebastian demonstrated everything and took time to walk around the class and make modifications to help everyone move properly. The "round" was topped of with an "attack" where you go at the bag with whatever you want for a short period of time while the instructors encourage you. Whew! Talk about an intense few seconds!

CKO Kickboxing Brickell

Afterwards we got resistance bands and did a creative and challenging circuit of resistance training. Just when I thought my muscles couldn't do another rep it was back to the bag! This time the class took turns using the battle ropes while working on angles with the bag to help better simulate an actual fight. We did a few more combos of punches and another attack before taking it to the floor for some core work. Once everything was said and done we were lead through some stretches before our workout was complete.Final thoughts on the whole experience? It was awesome. I had fun, I was challenged and at the end of the hour I felt like I had gotten a great workout in- and even gotten some aggression out with all the punching and kicking. A couple of key takeaways:

  1. It's for everyone- men and women alike. This isn't what one would expect when they think of a traditional grungy boxing gym like the ones you see on Rocky or whatever other boxing movie you've seen. It's a nice facility with everything you need for a great workout.
  1. You don't have to be in shape to come here. I know, I know- working out can be intimidating. So are a lot of things you've never done. But don't let that fear hold you back from taking a class- or from anything else for that matter. If you feel like you need to get in shape before taking a group fitness class then that's the opposite of how your coach and trainers will want you to think. Most coaches (myself included) became one so that we can help people get into shape- not so we can coach the fit people. Coaches want to help you feel comfortable in your own skin and get in shape so don't waste time trying to get there on your own so you can then come take a class.

Sign up for your free class at CKO Kickboxing Brickell here, and go have fun. Ask questions if you have them. Maybe I will even see you at the bag beside of you!Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ckomiami/

The music was perfectly pumpin’ and I loved the incorporation of the weighted bar during the class. It gave my upper body a nice little burn.

Sweat It Out at Fierce Fit Miami, Doral's Newest High-Energy Workout Class

As your first class at Fierce Fit Miami is completely FREE you have nothing to lose by giving it a try - you won’t be disappointed.

My favorite types of gyms are those with vast empty spaces. It’s the infinite possibility of dynamic, intense and creative workouts that can be made and changed in these very spaces, on a daily basis that I find most thrilling.Fierce Fit Miami is my kind of gym. Despite its minimalistic appearance, the workouts will have you training at maximum capacity!Owner, Michelle Bertran, has created high energy training programs that combine elements of high intensity interval training (HIIT), metabolic conditioning, boot camp and plyometric training. These one-hour, full body workouts, change everyday so you continue to challenge yourself! To break it down, Fierce Fit Miami focuses on helping you do effective workouts using your own bodyweight. I really encourage anyone looking at incorporating a new workout regime into their lives to start with being able to manage their own bodyweight first. The session I tackled was a 30-minute circuit, broken down into 5-minute intervals. Every 5 minutes I had 3 exercises to do repeatedly, for example; 15 overhead lunges, 10 burpees and a 30 second plank. 10 burpees may sound very manageable but it’s a different story when you’re doing them for 5 minutes!

Fierce Fit Miami

Bodyweight workouts help you build and gain functional strength, flexibility and endurance. It’s a very good way of getting fit and is excellent for all levels as exercises can be easily modified for anyone.Michelle has a varied cliental that don’t have age, preference or experience in common, but they do all share the same workout space and are ALL seeing the results!During your 1-hour session, in addition to a dynamic warm up, cool down and a killer workout (which I absolutely loved and hated simultaneously), you can count on encouragement and support from Michelle who does NOT stop cheering for you!According to a study published in Psychology of Sport and Exercise, an important factor that was found to create long-term health and fitness success is having a good support system. A lot of people overlook this factor when seeking out new gyms but it can really elevate your workout. If that isn’t enough, devoted owner Michelle gives her number out to clients just incase they need any guidance outside of the gym. As an example, clients will message her in the grocery store when they are looking for healthy food options.I’m sure we can all relate to occasions where we’ve planned to go to a gym class but something crops up and we don’t end up prioritizing a workout.Well, Fierce Fit Miami has a clever app that you can download free of charge. The app allows you to pay, check-in and create a schedule for the sessions you want to attend each week. This is an effective tool for holding members accountable to their schedules. This strategy will definitely make you think twice before cancelling a session at Fierce Fit Miami because Michelle will follow up with your absence! As your first class at Fierce Fit Miami is completely FREE you have nothing to lose by giving it a try - you won’t be disappointed. Once you consider signing up I would suggest the “Boot Camp” package for $100 a month which includes unlimited monthly classes. If you could manage 12 sessions a month, the equivalent of 3 sessions a week you would be paying $8.30 a session and that’s fantastic value for money! For more information, visit http://www.fiercefitmiami.com/.

Nike's New Lincoln Road Store Opens Today

The new Nike Miami store opens its doors, giving fitness fanatics a first look at the brand's limited-edition swag and state-of-the-art shopping perks.

For months, the building at the corner of Lincoln Road and Lenox Avenue has undergone a transformation into Miami Beach's newest fitness capital. Today, the new Nike Miami store opens its doors for the first time, giving fitness fanatics a first look at the brand's limited-edition swag and state-of-the-art shopping perks. What was once a 1999 Williams Sonoma and Pottery Barn, is now a two-story, 31,000-square-foot athletic fashions mecca. Heidi O’Neill, president of Nike DTC, says choosing Miami for its latest innovation was a no-brainer. "As we thought about where our next steps would be in leading the future of sports retail, we thought Miami would be the perfect step in that journey."The new store's extravagant exterior was designed with Miami in mind, using waffle ironing in concrete and terrazzo panels, echoing South American and South Floridian design. In addition, the first floor showcases a multimedia installation by Miami artist Jessy Nite, combining the forces of painting, typography, and sculpture.

Nike Miami

One of the most cutting-edge features in this new location is the Nike+ Trial Zones. Not only do you get to try on products, now you get to try them out. Get a feel for your new kicks while shooting hoops in the 285-square-foot basketball court or score a goal on the synthetic turf soccer field. You can even get a personalized running experience on a camera-operating treadmill. It records your stride and knee performance while you run, downloading your information and preferences to assure your best consultation.Nike store associates are basically the Apple Geniuses of fitness apparel, serving shoppers with hours of certified training knowledge. "If you’re interested in running, or taking your first yoga class, or trying out for a basketball team…we will match you with the right expert for you. Personal shopping meets personal training," O’Neill says.Nike Miami also blends the experiences of a sports center and an intimate boutique in its first-floor women’s section known as the Lounge. Ladies can enjoy one-on-one appointments for everything from bra-fittings to pant hemming. Fitting rooms here are double the standard size, with mood lighting that simulates a yoga studio or night run to make shoppers' decisions between cuts and colors come into focus.Nike+ member perks and access to premium products (like the Kobe Fade to Black Pack, Kyrie 3 “What The,” Air Force 1 UltraForce Mid and Zonal Strength Tights) are additional incentives to arrive ASAP to today's grand opening.Nike Miami Grand OpeningThursday, January 19, starting at 10 a.m. at 1035 Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach. Admission is free. Visit nike.com.*This article was originally posted on the Miami New Times by Sofia Harris and can be found here.
