Club Pilates is an independently-owned franchise with approximately 700 locations nationwide and continually growing, with many of them popping up all over Florida. Despite its massively shared name and concept, when you walk into their studio, you don’t feel that “chain” vibe. Club Pilates offers a small, sophisticated, intimate studio setting that makes you feel comfortable and connected with your group class.
RELATED Club Pilates Continues South Florida Expansion in Coral Gables
There are currently 24 locations spanning all the way from Jupiter to Miami which proves that Pilates has become increasingly popular over the years and those who attend regularly are quite devoted, much like those who dedicate their practice to yoga. Club Pilates offers its members a holistic approach to this every-popular fitness culture.
In the past, I have only taken classes that involved mat Pilates with no equipment so I was quite eager to try out Club Pilates' intro class. One of their newest locations in Parkland opened in December 2019, conveniently near me. Upon arriving, I was immediately greeted by the studio’s owner, Iannetta who, along with her husband, opened their first Club Pilates two and a half years ago in Coral Springs.
I wasn’t sure what to expect other than utilizing a machine that looked both fun and also a bit intimidating at the same time. For those who have never taken a Pilates class, it is highly recommended that you take their 30-minute intro class where the trainer assists you in becoming familiar with the reformer and introduces you to additional equipment often incorporated into the workouts such as a springboard, Bosu ball, and more.
This class is truly beneficial in learning how to use the reformer correctly and effectively and I have to say as someone who works out 5-6 days a week, I immediately felt muscles working that I never felt before. The controlled movements are effective in targeting different areas of the body to gain a stronger core, better balance, and improved coordination, breathing, and flexibility. Once you get the hang of it, you just want to keep doing more.
Aside from the devoted practitioners, many who attend Pilates classes are those who suffer from sports-related injuries, medical conditions, and other physical ailments since many of the movements are geared towards building strength, improving posture, and realigning the body.
Club Pilates is a membership-fee based studio that offers seven types of classes, all 50 minutes long, and taught at three different levels from Beginner to Advanced. The membership comes with many perks such as attending classes at most Club Pilates studios nationwide except in certain cities such as New York, San Francisco, and Chicago which requires participation in their Destination Membership Program.
All instructors are certified after completing a 500-hour teacher training course and scholarships are available for those who have practiced Pilates for at least two to three months and are interested in becoming instructors themselves.

Because this fitness practice is a way of life for many, Club Pilates also hosts monthly, 50-90 minute workshops run by master trainers. In these workshops, participants will become educated on the four core principles of Pilates B.E.A.M. which stands for Breath, Energize, Align, and Move, learn about one’s imbalances, and discover how they can regain their strength, achieve better posture, and improve their overall body and mind.
Whether you’re looking to change up your fitness routine or commit to transforming your overall fitness lifestyle and becoming a part of an ever-growing family of Pilates practitioners, Club Pilates is there to guide you every step of the way.

Rest days are important and we visited the Tierra Santa Healing House at Faena Hotel on Miami Beach for the best rest day ever.
If you’re an athlete of any caliber, you know rest days are crucial to progression. Is there a better way to spend your day off than getting pampered at one of Miami’s best spas? I booked a massage that a friend gifted me at Tierra Santa Healing House and proceeded to have the best. day. ever.
Located in a spacious sanctuary on the second floor of the Faena Hotel in Miami Beach, Tierra Santa Healing House feels as though the spa at a 5-star hotel and your favorite Tulum beach resort had a baby. Considered one of Miami’s best spas, Tierra Santa Healing House blends “shaman-developed body-healing rituals” with the luxuries of a traditional spa, resulting in an authentic and enjoyable healing experience.
I arrived 30 minutes early for my massage to enjoy all that the spa has to offer. After a first-class greeting and check-in process, I was led to the fabulous wet spa. To be honest, I find hammams to be the highlight of any spa experience, so I spent the entirety of my steam room, hammam, sauna, cold shower rotation completely elated. In hindsight, I would have given myself more time here. My only complaint about literally the entire day was that the cold cycles didn’t feel quite cold enough.
After my hammam session, I enjoyed a cup of warm herbal tea and was escorted to the back for my massage. To prepare for the session, I chose my own chakra balancing essential oil scent (I chose palo santo), the lighting, and temperature.
My 80-minute Swedish massage at Tierra Santa Healing House was quite honestly one of the best massages I’ve ever received. In the past, I have found some of my luxury hotel spa massages to lack depth, but this was not that kind of experience. The pressure was perfect, my masseuse was obviously very skilled, and the entire experience flowed like magic. I topped off my massage with a 15-minute chakra harmonization. By the end, I was so relaxed I could barely stand. But, the hammam was calling me back.
After a couple more cycles in the wet spa, I headed out. The locker room is a lovely sanctuary in itself, but rather than primp for the day, I went straight to my beach chair (included with an 80+ minute session) to alternate between ocean dips and soaking in the perfect winter sun.
If you are interested in alternative healing but don’t want to give up the luxury of a five-star spa, Tierra Santa Healing House is without a doubt one of the best options in Miami.

From the moment you walk through the doors of Funk&Flow - Feel Good Movement Space, you’re immediately drawn to its eclectic, zen-like, and all-around funky vibe. From the local artwork strewn about the waiting area and the boombox wallpaper in the bathroom, to the edison bulbs serving as the only lighting inside the classroom, this studio offers more than just a place to come take a class.
Jessi Morris, owner of Funk&Flow, located in Fort Lauderdale, opened the studio two and a half years ago with the hopes of creating an environment and space where people at all fitness levels can express themselves freely through music and rhythmic movement. Morris has an extensive dance background beginning from age 10, extending into her college years in California, and ultimately as a professional dancer with experience in all types of dance such as Hip Hop, Lyrical, Latin, and African.
“I rented space at various studios throughout the years and the one thing I noticed is the friendships that developed in my classes and the lack of space where they can socialize before and after class,” said Morris.
After finally finding the right place, she’s done just that and more. Morris has created a space where instructors teach intuitively and students are encouraged to embrace freestyle movement.
Funk&Flow offers classes beginner, advanced, and free-movement classes such as Barre Body, Feel Good and Wind Down Flow, Belly Dance Fusion , Yoga, Hip Hop for All, and, of course, Funk Body.
The Funk Body class is not only fun, it’s quite intense and you will sweat! There is no pre-selected music; Morris hits shuffle on her playlist and away the class goes. The music is loud, the energy high, and, within minutes, you are fully immersed in a collective and rhythmic dance journey. By the end of the class, you feel as if you’ve just come home from a great dancing night out and that elevated mood remains with you throughout the day.
Perhaps the best part of Funk&Flow is that it’s continually evolving. Morris is exploring new class offerings that target specific areas of the body as well as curating community live music movement flow and fusion classes that will be launching this spring.
Morris has also opened up her studio to the community for its members to rent for rehearsals, casting calls, and special events. Funk&Flow hosts self-improvement events such as a vision board making class and various donation-based classes on certain days.

HOTWORX is a new franchised fitness studio in Pembroke Pines that uses the technology of an infrared sauna to give you more workout in less time.
HOTWORX is a new franchised fitness studio in Pembroke Pines that uses the technology of an infrared sauna to give you more workout in less time.
Infrared saunas have been demonstrated to give results like reducing stress, increasing calorie burn, providing pain relief, detoxify, increasing flexibility, lowering blood pressure, improving circulation, and helping with weight loss.
There are a total of 10 sauna rooms within HOTWORX, all providing a different type of workout. There are HIIT workouts, like Cycle and Blast, which run every 15 minutes and give you a cardio-intensive workout on either a stationary bike or an elliptical-type machine.
There are also isometric workouts such as yoga, Pilates, buns, core, and bands. Isometric workouts run every 45 minutes, giving you 30 minutes to workout and 15 minutes to stretch. If any equipment is needed for a class, such as resistance bands or Pilates rings, those are provided. However, mats and towels must be brought in by members.
Workouts are short because thanks to the heat and infrared energy, training is accelerated. Not only will your muscles warm up faster, but your heart rate raises quicker, giving you an effective workout in much less time. Cross-training is highly encouraged to prevent boredom, diversify your workout program, and accelerate progress.
All classes are led by a streaming, virtual instructor, motivating you and talking you through the workout.
"HOTWORX truly is a place where people of all fitness levels can challenge themselves to be their best self," said Jessica Williamson, franchisee. "With more workouts in less time and around the clock access, there really are no excuses and members love that."
HOTWORX Pembroke Pines is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so you are able to "earn the burn" whenever is convenient for you. Each studio room allows up to three members to workout at a time, and sessions can be booked via the HOTWORX app. Also within the app, members can unlock rewards, complete challenges, and even compete with other members if they wish.
HOTWORX Pembroke Pines also has a functional exercise area that is not within a sauna with weights, bands, ropes, and more for use before or after an infrared workout. There is a silent trainer on the screen here as well, demonstrating some different workouts you could do.
Memberships start at just $59 per month for unlimited access to one location.

New-Year-New-You Season is here, and if you are looking for ways to refresh, renew, and practice quality self-care, a place you might want to consider is Massage Luxe. The Massage Luxe downtown Miami salon offers massages and facials on a one-time purchase or subscription basis. I gave them a try and was not disappointed.
I tried out the “Glow and Go” facial which is a 30-minute glycolic peel, that fit perfectly into my after-work schedule. My skin was softer for days, and some of my small breakouts essentially disappeared afterward. Even with great results, there was minimal redness and no downtime. The esthetician, Jennifer, also did an assessment of my skin and made personalized recommendations based on the issues she saw.

Jennifer was knowledgeable about general skincare questions as well as the line the salon uses, Repechage. The name is a French word referring to the second chance competitors get in sporting events when they didn’t win their heat. So uplifting vibes are in the name, but more than that, the line uses natural and organic ingredients that are meant to be easier on the skin than synthetic options. Also, the products are at a range of prices that can fit into most budgets.
I also had reflexology, which is a special type of massage based on the energy meridians used in Eastern medicine practices like acupuncture. The therapist, Jesid, noted that he has clients with many different complaints ranging from migraines to back pain to digestive issues which can all be treated with reflexology. This is just one of many types of specialized massages like prenatal, trigger point, and hot stone that are offered at Massage Luxe.
After my treatment, I was able to use their Hydroluxe massage bed, which is included with the subscription package. It is a heated water massage for 15 minutes that members can use daily. It was a nice complement to the treatment.
Overall, the experience was everything you would want from an establishment with such a promising name; friendly front desk staff, a quiet lounge with water or tea to start, knowledgeable professionals working with you to treat your specific needs rather than cookie-cutter treatments. I was relaxed after and happy with my results. The packages and membership options available make this an affordable way to commit to yourself in the upcoming year. This is definitely a place I will return to and recommend.
Located in the ever-growing and now booming City of Doral, RZone Doral is a breath of fresh air, and a Women Only gym.
Located in the ever-growing and now booming City of Doral, RZone is a breath of fresh air. It’s squeaky clean, brand new, and fresh out of the package, making it the third RZone location after Coral Gables and Pinecrest, with West Kendall coming soon.
“We chose Doral because we felt there was a need for an all women’s fitness studio," said RZone Manager, Humberto Fernandez Moran. "Women should have a place to work out where they are at ease and feel comfortable.”
The idea behind an all-female gym is to build a space where women can feel a sense of camaraderie. You’ll find yourself surrounded by like-minded women and most often, coached by a like-minded woman as well.
“Our studio was designed with women in mind and with the best and latest equipment for their use,” says Fernandez Moran.
With treadmills, Cybex Arc Trainers, Airdyne Bikes and WaterRowers, every day that you show up to sweat you’re doing tried and true, full bodywork. Your workout is also heart rate monitored. This makes it so that you’re not looking to outdo anyone but yourself. You can see how hard you’re pushing and self assess if you can give a little more. If you find you have more to give, chances are the coaches won’t let you get away with just coasting.
Inaddition to your coach, giant monitors on either side of the studio are replayingthe step by step motions of the workout so that you have a model to constantlyfollow. Throw in the jams blasting over the speakers and consider yourself lostin the zone. You’ll find yourself working hard at RZone, and yet, you’re justgoing with the flow of things.
UFC Midtown Miami is the fourth location in South Florida, following the Kendall, North Miami, and Lauderhill.
Every UFC Gym has a reputation that precedes itself. An extension of the Ultimate Fighting Championship itself, these gyms aim to make elite MMA training accessible to all.
UFC Midtown Miami is the fourth location in South Florida, following the Kendall, North Miami, and Lauderhill. The Midtown Miami location will be a corporate club as well. Meaning, that among the boutique gyms and “signature sized clubs” that UFC offers, this location will be the latter.
As a corporate club, UFC Midtown Miami has endless amenities to support its “train different” experience.
“Train different stands for UFC’s mission to empower the fighting spirit," said Dominique Butler, Operations Manager at UFC Midtown Miami.
Most classes offered will work on a progression. From one week to the next, you’ll work a different muscle group in a wildly different way. Your class next week will be tougher than last week’s, but no worries, by then you’ll be ready and needing a new push. All the while, your coaches and even your gym-mates will be cheering you on.
It’s hard not to notice the family culture that is promoted at the UFC Gyms. A heavy emphasis is placed on the inclusiveness of all ages (starting as young as 13) and training levels and you’ll feel it.
“You’ll always go longer and faster together,” said Butler. "This in mind, UFC understands that when supporting one another, our goals will always be easier to attain."
All memberships can be customized to your wants and needs. Among MMA classes (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, MMA conditioning), traditional gym classes (yoga, pilates, barre, strength, cycle, HIIT, cardio, dance), open gym amenities, and access to recovery services (cryotherapy, percussion massages and NormaTech), your membership can include and exclude whatever you desire.
Setting the resolution to globe-trot in 2020? UFC Gyms have locations in the UK, India, Australia, Vietnam, Singapore, Mexico, South America, and the United Arab Emirates. With a “champion” membership, you’re on your way to stay fit, globally.
For a limited time, UFC Midtown Miami is offering discounted rates to join their fam just a few months before their projected opening in 2020.

Their unique training facility offers circuit training with classes that include obstacle course race (OCR) training, and of course, ninja warrior training.
If you’re like me, you’ve found yourself channel surfing and happened to come across real-life ninjas flying through the air in a race against time to complete a bizarre obstacle course, and thought WOW that looks fun! You know what TV show I’m talking about … American Ninja Warrior!
As the show has gained increasing popularity since its immersion on American television in 2009, “Ninja” style gyms have been sprouting up all across the United States. Atomic Training Performane is one of those facilities located right here in Fort Lauderdale.
Atomic Training and Performance is located on State Road 7 in Fort Lauderdale. Their unique training facility offers a systematic approach to circuit training with classes that include strength and conditioning, obstacle course race (OCR) training, first responder fitness, and of course, ninja warrior training.
Upon first walking into the gym, you look directly at the famed 14-foot warped wall. As you survey your surroundings, you see other obstacles such as the salmon ladder, the devil steps, and wing nuts.
My first experience trying these obstacles was in a group class that began with a dynamic warm-up to help with mobility and activate the muscles we were going to use. The coach then explained and demonstrated several different obstacles that mimic ones seen on TV. The fun begins as you attempt to balance, run, jump, climb, and fly!
Insulated mats are strategically placed under every obstacle, offering peace of mind and a safe place to land when you fall. Encouragement and coaching cues bellow out over the inspiring fitness-themed music as you experiment and push your body to move as you did as a child.
Remember how fun the monkey bars were as a kid? That’s what this is like - adult recess. While this may be a little more challenging than just doing the monkey bars, with the challenge comes exhilaration and a sense of accomplishment. Class is finished with a proper cooldown to enhance recovery and high-fives all around.
After taking a class at Atomic Training and Performance, it's easy to see why this style of training is becoming more and more popular across America. From youth classes to beginners, to the elite ninja, ATP has a little something for everyone!

If you're still looking for that unique challenge that pushes your limits, then Cykle Jab should be on your list of must-try Miami gyms.
You might think you’ve tried it all. But if you're still looking for that unique challenge that pushes your limits, then Cykle Jab should be on your list of must-try Miami gyms.
With a combination of cycling, boxing, and weight training, Cykle Jab is here to confuse your muscles.
“You can attend classes every day and you’ll never plateau,” says Cykle Jab co-founder Ralph Jacob.
“The enemy of progress is routine, and muscle confusion is best," Ralph adds when commenting on the studio's combination of modalities. Cycling covers cardio, boxing adds dynamism, and weight training finishes off a total body workout.
The cycling portion of the class is not your run of the mill stationary bike. Cykle Jab’s bikes move side to side like a bike would on an actual trail ride. If you’ve ever been instructed while cycling to keep a light grip on the handlebars, these bikes take that challenge to a new level. Your core won’t know what hit it.
Boxing is a high-intensity workout no matter where you do it. At Cykle Jab, you’ll be doing it after weights and cycling. Apart from looking like lovely decor, the water-filled bags you’ll be punching are safer for your joints than the usual punching bag.
Layer onto all of this their new Build + Sculpt segment which includes weights and functional training, and you’ll understand why plateauing is simply not an option.
In this bigger and better space, Cykle Jab includes a personal training section. Further still, Ralph states meditation classes are on the horizon. Now, every Tuesday and Thursday at 8:15pm, you can attend a guided meditation.
“Everyone is very fit but not working on their inner selves,” notes Ralph, and aims to address this need in this new space.
With new 6:00am slots on the Cykle Jab schedule, you can now use a sweat sesh to jump-start your day.
