Miami-based fitness brand 54D has seen exponential growth during this year's quarantine as people from all over the world have joined their wellness movement and helped them reach a new streaming record of 31,000 views.
54D, which is short for 54 Days, gets results through a 9-week training program utilizing high-intensity group training. They have locations in Coral Gables, Colombia, and Mexico.
"When we say, ‘we are not a gym,’ we really mean it," says owner and former professional soccer player Rodrigo Garduño. "Fitness is about discipline, and we demand nothing less than 100% devotion from every person who comes through our doors and signs on the dotted line. That way, we can all reach our highest potential."
Since COVID-19 forced everyone to stay at home, 54D has been offering their classes for free each morning on Instagram Live via Garduño's account @ro54D. Garduño has been streaming from his backyard in Coral Gables, attracting views such as model Adriana Lima, Latin singing sensation Fonseca, Yankees legend Jorge Posada, and more.
While Garduño initially missed interacting with people and feeding off their energy to fuel his own, he quickly adapted to the virtual format using feedback from viewer comments. 54D averages around 30,000 viewers per class and they stream Monday through Saturday at 11 am ET.
"We feel so connected to our virtual audience that we might continue to offer a weekly class through a social media platform, even once we go back to the “new normal," said Garduño. "I can also share that we are working on a state-of-the-art app that will allow our members to continue to participate in the 54D movement, no matter where they are and what time of the day it is."
The 54D system is typically divided into three specialized areas including physical training, a custom nutritional plan, and recovery therapy at a regular cost of $3,900 for 54 Days. Of course, right now the program is completely free online via Garduño's Instagram. To learn more, check out their website www.54days.com.
"Thousands of people are benefiting every day from our free sessions, and that is something that really makes this whole journey worthwhile and meaningful to all of us behind 54D," said Garduño.

Kamps Fitness has announced that they will stay closed and not pursue reopening their studio in Miami at this time. This decision also applies to their studio in Madison, WI. In fact, Kamps co-founders Sam and Ari Karl believe that the fitness industry should be one of the last to reopen.
"At Kamps, we want to be 100% sure that when we reopen our locations, we are doing so in a way that will guarantee the safety of our community," said Karl and Karl. "At this particular time, we do not feel that there is enough available information surrounding COVID-19 and would prefer to hold until we have as many details as possible to ensure that we are protecting our community."
While the team is aware that this decision comes with risks, including continuing to pay rent and utility expenses for unused spaces and even potentially losing clientele to other studios that chose to open, Kamps is focusing on their digital platform.
Kamps has pivoted their business to build a virtual community, Kamps Live, that brings their high interval intensity training workouts to individuals across the US. Through the Kamps Live program, the team's expert trainers host five live classes per day on Zoom with a cost of $5 for an individual class, or $25 for a monthly membership.
Since launching in March, the team has been encouraged by the high volume of membership signups and incredible feedback from their global community. Kamps has since introduced a library of on-demand classes that members can access at any time of the day, and will soon expand upon their class offerings to include workouts such as yoga and Pilates.
"Throughout these difficult times, we've been so inspired by the community that we have built through our virtual platform Kamps Live," said Karl. "As we all do our best to navigate the current climate, it's been incredible to see hundreds of individuals unite on Kamps Live every day and take an hour out of their schedules to practice self-care."
While there is no doubt that the co-founders miss working out with the Kamps Krew, they are grateful they have been able to stay in touch through Kamps Live.
"One of our favorite parts about having a studio is the closeness that comes from working out alongside one another, and we would prefer to hold on reopening until we can embrace this sense of togetherness in the safest way possible."
Kamps Fitness announced they will not pursue reopening their studio in Miami. Kamps co-founders believe the fitness industry should be the last to reopen.
Helen Blondel aims to unveil the mystique of belly dancing while empowering women and girls to feel great about their body with her new online dance course.
Blondel recently launched BellyPOP, an online course designed to teach the fundamentals of the ancient art of belly dancing in the safety and comfort of your own home.
Blondel has over 15 years of experience as a dancer and teacher and has won multiple awards.
“I’m really excited about the launch of BellyPOP," explains Blondel. “The focus of this course is to introduce people to the essentials of this incredible art form, while at the same time liberating them from hangups about their body. BellyPOP is designed for women and girls of all ages, no matter what their shape or ability."
The course is focused on teaching newcomers the foundations of belly dancing, and the classes are divided up into easy segments, with each module focusing on an essential pillar of belly dancing skills. Blondel is available to answer any questions from her students with an easy to understand approach and a friendly one-on-one style.
With most people confined to their homes as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, now is the perfect time to try something new, while remaining socially distant.
“People can’t really go out and attend a dance studio these days," says Blondel. “That’s what makes BellyPOP so great. Instead of mindlessly scrolling through Instagram or binging on Netflix, you can learn something new that’s going to help you stay in shape, release endorphins and give you more confidence about your body, all in the safety of your living room."

As gyms and studios start to re-open across the country, they are putting extensive new safety standards in place. We've seen companies like SoulCycle, CycleBar, Pure Barre, and others announce their safety measures. While cleanliness has always been a priority for gym owners, new guidelines aim to provide both employees and members with a safe class experience.
Although it can be hard to predict exactly what consumers will expect before beginning to attend classes again, studios are covering all bases. Here are some of the ways that studios will be making sure their employees and members are safe as operations start again.
This list is a compilation of security measures being rolled out in several national studio brands and may vary from gym to gym.
As this is an evolving situation, studios will also be continuing to evaluate the situation to ensure that the proper precautions are being taken.

Some of your favorite JetSet Pilates studios are under new ownership and rebranding to be the new Tremble. This rebrand includes the locations in Coral Gables, Wynwood, North Miami, and Sunset Harbour.
Aryan Rashed, prior JetSet co-owner and now Tremble CEO and owner, has been busy using the downtime of the quarantine to work through all the details of this rebrand as well as make improvements to the overall customer experience so that current and future members have a refreshed studio to come back to.
In addition to repainting studios and putting up new signs, Rashed is also taking her time picking out all of the little details that will complete Tremble. It is clear that Rashed has put a lot of thought into the name of the studio and the meaning behind the brand.
Mostly obviously Tremble comes from the physical element of trembling and shaking, and anyone who has taken a Pilates class before knows that you are focusing on working through the shake during your time there. Within the logo itself is a trembling B, meant to represent the body trembling.
Through trembling can also come a transformation.
"Tremble can be a positive opportunity and a chance to be able to grow," said Rashed. "Fear is an opportunity for change."
The irony of this new brand launch, the meaning behind its name, and the current global pandemic is not lost on Rashed. She is embracing the opportunity for change and making the most of what is a very unconventional time.
"The timing is unbelievable because we are living in a time of uncertainty," Rashed said.
Tremble is also an acronym for the studio's core values: Together, Resilience, Energy, More, Bold, Leadership, Everyday.
With all of this meaning, Rashed hopes to strengthen Tremble's current tribe of members as well as speak to new individuals in the community.
Adding to the class selection that members had come to know, Tremble has been listening to feedback regarding the format and length of classes and will introduce 45 and 60 minutes classes, and begin to focus on the upper or lower body on different days.
Join the Tremble Tribe online this month as they launch a new virtual program with prerecorded classes and moves you can do from home. A portion of the class costs will be going back to COVID-related charities.

Working out while traveling can take serious planning and coordination. Enter ROAM Fitness, an airport gym that takes all the hassle out of working out while traveling. Their current location is past security in Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport outside of Baltimore, MD, and it has been open for three years now.
ROAM Fitness was founded in 2015 by Ty Manegold and Cynthia Sandall. The two frequent fliers didn't like how travel days negatively impacted their bodies. The company was created because they believe that travel days don't have to compromise our health or our exercise routines.
While it may be small, ROAM Fitness has thought of everything you might need if you are trying to stretch your legs or burn off some extra energy before or after your flight. Need clothes? Lululemon sports bras, t-shirts, shorts, and leggings are available for women to borrow, while shorts and t-shirts are available for men. Need shoes? They offer Brooks sneakers for rental. Socks are the only thing you would need to either provide or purchase from ROAM.
The gym facilities feature a cardio area with a variety of equipment including treadmills, stationary bikes, an elliptical, and even a rower. There are two benches and free weights up to 50 pounds in a strength training section of the gym. Lastly, there is an open area with mats, medicine balls, TRX bands, resistance bands, blocks, and foam rollers, for stretching or miscellaneous workouts.
And when you are done working out, your day pass also includes 15 minutes of shower time. The private shower rooms include towel service and Malin+Goetz products. Visitors can also freshen up at ROAM's vanity area with hairdryers, dry shampoo, deodorant, and other thoughtful amenities.
For additional features that you would definitely want your airport gym to have, ROAM Fitness allows you to keep track of your flight time while you are working out with an in-studio display board. They also have lockers large enough to fit your carry-on luggage with power outlets to charge your devices while exercising.
In case you want to do some shopping, ROAM Fitness is an authorized lululemon and Brooks Running retailer, and they also sell a variety of drinks and snacks to round out your healthy airport excursion.
ROAM Fitness offers a day pass for just $25 and it is good from 24 hours of checking into the gym. Members can use their day passes at multiple locations as long as it is within the 24-hour window. If you have an awkward travel schedule or a delayed flight, ROAM Fitness can save the day by allowing you to get in a quick sweat and a nice shower.
ROAM Fitness is expanding to San Francisco International Airport next. From there, the company has large goals to make these airport gyms a commodity across the country. For more information on ROAM Fitness, check out their website at roamfitness.com.

Fitness brand Echelon Fitness has opened its second location right here in Miami.
It is at this studio, located at 14861 Biscayne Blvd in the Biscayne Commons shopping center, where more than 10 cycling classes a day will be held and streamed to tens of thousands of households throughout the country. The studio features 40 of Echelon's Connect Bike, which have riders participating live with the Echelon community.

The brand started streaming online classes in their office in Chattanooga, TN, in January 2018, and opened their flagship studio in the same city shortly after in September 2018.

With two classrooms at their new Florida location, Echelon will soon be adding a variety of new class formats to their schedule, including yoga, pilates, boot camp, HIIT training, and meditation. These classes will stream live on their Reflect Mirror, a touchscreen smart mirror that brings live personal training experiences into the home. All classes are designed for all fitness levels.
Lentine believes the expanding repertoire of classes is what makes Echelon unique. They do not just offer cycling classes.
"When someone joins our studio, they get a variety of boutique classes under one roof," said Lentine.
For local residents, this new studio has locker rooms with charging stations, showers and towel service, hair and makeup stations, and retail where consumers can stock up on fitness gear and invest in home-based products like the Connect Bike or the Reflect Mirror.
In the coming months, Echelon Fitness will also be adding a smart rower and treadmill to their collection of products, and treadmill classes will also be filmed in Miami.
Unlike many boutique fitness studios, classes will be running all day, with different class lengths and a variety of times, making it really convenient to stop in for a class. HOTWORX is a new franchised fitness studio in Pembroke Pines that uses the technology of an infrared sauna to give you more workout in less time.
Infrared saunas have been demonstrated to give results like reducing stress, increasing calorie burn, providing pain relief, detoxify, increasing flexibility, lowering blood pressure, improving circulation, and helping with weight loss.
There are a total of 10 sauna rooms within HOTWORX, all providing a different type of workout. There are HIIT workouts, like Cycle and Blast, which run every 15 minutes and give you a cardio-intensive workout on either a stationary bike or an elliptical-type machine.
There are also isometric workouts such as yoga, Pilates, buns, core, and bands. Isometric workouts run every 45 minutes, giving you 30 minutes to workout and 15 minutes to stretch. If any equipment is needed for a class, such as resistance bands or Pilates rings, those are provided. However, mats and towels must be brought in by members.
Workouts are short because thanks to the heat and infrared energy, training is accelerated. Not only will your muscles warm up faster, but your heart rate raises quicker, giving you an effective workout in much less time. Cross-training is highly encouraged to prevent boredom, diversify your workout program, and accelerate progress.
All classes are led by a streaming, virtual instructor, motivating you and talking you through the workout.
"HOTWORX truly is a place where people of all fitness levels can challenge themselves to be their best self," said Jessica Williamson, franchisee. "With more workouts in less time and around the clock access, there really are no excuses and members love that."
